The Aqaba Marine Reserve has officially been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, recognising its marine ecosystem and Jordan’s efforts to protect its natural heritage. The inscription was approved during the 48th Session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, held in Busan, Republic of Korea, in July 2026.
Located at the northern tip of the Red Sea, the Aqaba Marine Reserve is characterised by clear waters, coral reefs, diverse marine life and seagrass meadows, creating one of the region’s rich marine habitats.
